Miryang-si Operates 'Free Agent System for Local Tax Appeal Services'

Miryang City in Gyeongnam announced on the 28th that it will operate the ‘Local Tax Selected Agent System’ to enhance taxpayer convenience and rights.

The ‘Local Tax Selected Agent System’ is a system where taxpayers who lack the financial ability to appoint a tax agent and have objections to local taxes can designate an agent (tax accountant, certified public accountant, lawyer) selected by Miryang City without additional costs to handle local tax appeals.

The applicants are individuals (excluding corporations) who file appeals for tax payments under 10 million KRW, with total property value including spouse under 500 million KRW, and comprehensive income under 50 million KRW. However, high-amount or habitual tax delinquents are excluded.

To apply, taxpayers must submit an agent designation application form to the city tax department when filing a local tax appeal. Taxpayers will be notified of the selected agent application result within 7 days from the date of receipt.

Shin Sang-cheol, head of the tax department, said, “We will do our best to promote and operate the ‘Local Tax Selected Agent System’ to protect taxpayers’ rights and provide practical help to citizens.”
