Professor Lee Hyang-sook of the Department of Mathematics Appointed as the 18th President of Ewha Womans University

Ewha Womans University has appointed Professor Lee Hyang-sook (61) from the Department of Mathematics as its 18th president.

The Ewha Hakdang Foundation held a board meeting on the 28th and announced that Professor Lee was appointed as the 18th president. The direct presidential election involved professors, staff, students, and alumni, with the board selecting one candidate from the two who received the most votes.


The new president earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Ewha Womans University and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Northwestern University in the United States. Since 1995, she has been a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Ewha Womans University's College of Natural Sciences. She has held key positions including head of the Department of Mathematics, deputy director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and deputy director of the Office of Research Affairs, director of the Office of Research Affairs and director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, president of the Graduate School Alumni Association, and director of the Office of Research Affairs.


In 2017, she became the first female president of the Korean Mathematical Society. She currently serves as a board member of the National Research Foundation of Korea. Professor Lee will assume office on February 1 next year, with a term of four years.
