Tuna Filleting Show at the Mart... Homeplus Renews 'Mega Food Market Live'

Strengthening Experiential Content... From Tasting Events to Popup Zones
Monthly Seasonal Fish Filleting Show at Seafood Corner
Cooking Process Introduced at 'Today's Cooking' Tasting Corner

"The tuna filleting show will begin shortly."

On the 28th, at the tasting corner on the 2nd floor of Homeplus Gangseo branch in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, a whole large tuna, typically seen only in high-end Japanese restaurants, was placed on the table. As a skilled chef demonstrated dazzling knife skills to fillet the tuna, customers who entered at opening time stopped in their tracks and busily took photos of this rare sight in a large supermarket.

Homeplus Mega Food Market Gangseo branch has been reborn as 'Mega Food Market Live.' Mega Food Market Live is the second-generation model of Homeplus’s fresh food specialty store, Mega Food Market. Homeplus, which focuses on fresh food, plans to maximize the vividness that can only be experienced offline through Mega Food Market Live.

The biggest differentiator of Mega Food Market Live is its 'on-site content.' The goal is to provide an experience where customers can engage their five senses to interact with fresh food products, rather than just seeing and buying them. Key features include ▲development of new content such as live demonstrations of sashimi and sushi ▲strengthening tasting corners and face-to-face events ▲hosting pop-up zones and anchor tenants ▲expanding visual immersion using digital signage.

First, the multi-kitchen 'Singsing Hoegwan Live' is introduced. A tank full of live fish is placed at the front so customers can directly check the condition of seafood in the store. The variety of seafood products handled is also diverse. They sell everything from premium tuna sashimi and various fish sashimi to meals like rolls, tuna futomaki, sushi, as well as seafood dishes such as seasoned dishes and salads.

A table space is also prepared where customers can taste freshly sliced sashimi on the spot. This is due to the introduction of an 'Order made' service where experts prepare dishes instantly according to customer orders. This service operates for 12 items made from fish processed twice daily, and purchased products can be eaten immediately in the store.

Special events that capture customers’ attention are also held. To celebrate the renewal of Homeplus Mega Food Market Live, seasonal yellowtail and tuna filleting shows will be presented on the 29th and 30th respectively. Both start at 4 p.m. and take place in front of Singsing Hoegwan Live. On the morning of the press visit, a tuna filleting show was also held. The yellowtail sashimi and tuna sashimi produced from the filleting are immediately packed and sold. Homeplus plans to hold such filleting shows once a month focusing on seasonal fish.

The tasting corner where customers can sample various fresh foods before purchase has also been expanded. In particular, the 'Today’s Cooking Live' tasting corner has appeared, demonstrating various cooking processes right before customers’ eyes. Rather than simply tasting the prepared dishes, the cooking process using ingredients is shown live. Ingredients, meal kits, and tableware from the brand responsible for the tasting corner are also displayed.

Customized and premium products that enhance customer satisfaction are also noteworthy. In the meat section, popular brand pork is displayed in bulk format so customers can choose the cut style and weight according to their needs. Along with this, 'Handon YBD Golden Pork Belly and Neck,' a premium pork that accounts for only 0.3% of domestic pig production, is sold. YBD is a breed that combines the advantages of three breeds: Yorkshire, Berkshire, and Duroc.

Yoo Hye-kyung, Executive Director of Homeplus Retail Experience Headquarters, said, "Homeplus Mega Food Market Live has been reborn as a three-dimensional, large-scale specialty food store that satisfies customers’ five senses by providing vivid, high-quality content, not just a space where products are displayed." She added, "Starting with the renewal of the Gangseo branch, we are confident that we will offer more people a vivid shopping experience that can only be felt in offline grocery shopping and rise to the top as the strongest offline mart."

Meanwhile, to commemorate the renewal of Homeplus Mega Food Market Live Gangseo branch, a special customer event is underway. From the 28th for four days, customers who spend over 70,000 won in the mart will receive Jin Ramen (limited to 300 per day, total 1,200 people), and those who purchase over 100,000 won with Shinhan or Samsung cards will receive 2,000 shopping bags (while supplies last) on a first-come, first-served basis. Until the 11th of next month, customers who purchase Homeplus paper gift certificates worth over 100,000 won will receive an additional 5,000 won gift certificate.
