Cheonan Records 19.6cm of Snowfall on the 27th
Heavy snowfall overnight in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, caused a series of damages, including the collapse of a livestock barn roof.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration and other sources on the 28th, Cheonan saw an average of 19.6 cm of snow throughout the previous day. The area with the heaviest snowfall was Seonghwan-eup, recording 22.9 cm of accumulation.
As the heavy snow continued, around 11:20 p.m. the previous night, part of the ceiling at an electronic parts manufacturing plant in Ipjang-myeon, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, collapsed, prompting the emergency evacuation of about 70 employees.
Earlier, at around 10:50 p.m., a livestock barn in Ipjang-myeon, Cheonan, collapsed under the weight of accumulated snow, resulting in the death of three dairy cows.
There were also a series of power outages.
Starting around 9 p.m., a blackout in Mokcheon-eup, Dongnam-gu, left about 3,000 households without electricity, and power was also cut off in the Cheonheung-ri area of Seonggeo-eup.
Fortunately, there were no injuries, but authorities received reports of 24 fallen trees, 15 cases of damaged utility poles, and 6 cases of facility damage.
A city official stated, "We have established an emergency response system and are responding quickly," adding, "We will continue to monitor the weather situation to minimize damage."
