Uijeongbu City Holds First 'Urban Design Academy' for Employees

The First Step Toward Realizing a Sustainable City

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 28th that it conducted the 'Urban Design Academy' for the first time on the 19th and 26th, targeting 40 employees at the City Hall Talent Development Training Center to create user-centered urban spaces.

Through this training, the following directions for improving urban design were presented: △ Utilization methods of walkable urban design △ Regeneration of historical and cultural urban landscapes △ Culture-nomics for urban competitiveness ▲ Public design and regional innovation △ Pedestrian environment and place activation strategies △ Landscape planning methods reflecting regional identity.


In particular, according to the survey results, 92% of participants were satisfied or more with the training, and when asked about their intention to apply the training content to urban design improvements, 96% responded that they intended to utilize it.


This training served as an opportunity to consider urban design for regional development, including the functions of design applied to cities and design addressing social issues.


An Jong-seong, Director of the Urban Design Division, said, “We expect that the Urban Design Academy will further strengthen the urban design capabilities of our employees,” and added, “We will do our best so that citizens can enjoy a more livable and convenient urban environment.”


Meanwhile, the city plans to promote various follow-up projects, including the operation of urban design support systems, starting with this training.
