Complete Redesign of the 4th Generation After 7 Years Since 2017
BMW Korea launched the new model of the mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) X3 on the 28th. It is the 4th generation complete redesign model released seven years after the 3rd generation model in 2017.
The body length and width have increased compared to the previous 3rd generation model. The height has been lowered to give a dynamic impression. The front grille has been enlarged, applying a new structure combining vertical and diagonal lines. The grille also features contour lighting. The rear has a longer roof spoiler and air deflector, and the lamp design has been renewed. The high-performance model has a separately designed grille, side mirror covers, and exhaust system.
The interior features a curved display that integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch control display into one. The center fascia minimizes buttons. A panoramic glass roof is standard on all models. The trunk capacity has increased by 20 liters from the previous model to 570 liters, and folding down the rear seatbacks allows for up to 1700 liters of storage.
The latest operating system, BMW Operating System 9, has been applied. The Korean version of BMW navigation based on T-map is standard, providing map information via online streaming. Active cruise control and driving and parking assistance functions are standard. The high-performance model offers an option for automatic parking or executing stored driving up to 200 meters.
All models come standard with 48V mild hybrid technology. The regular models use a starter generator that produces 11 horsepower to assist the engine. The X3 20 xDrive is equipped with a BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 190 horsepower and torque of 31.6 kg·m. The combined fuel efficiency is 10.9 km per liter, an increase of 1.1 km compared to the previous model, and carbon dioxide emissions have decreased by 11.6%.
The diesel model, X3 20d xDrive, also features 48V mild hybrid technology, delivering a maximum output of 197 horsepower and torque of 40.8 kg·m. The official fuel efficiency is 14.0 km per liter, improved by 1.6 km from the previous model. The high-performance X3 M50 xDrive integrates an electric motor producing up to 18 horsepower into the 8-speed automatic transmission. Combined with the M TwinPower Turbo 3-liter inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine, it delivers a maximum output of 398 horsepower and maximum torque of 59.1 kg·m. It takes 4.6 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 10 km/h. All models combine an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
The price of the new X3 varies by trim: the X3 20 xDrive ranges from 68.9 million to 79.9 million KRW (including VAT, same below), and the X3 20d xDrive ranges from 72.7 million to 78.9 million KRW. The single-trim X3 M50 xDrive is priced at 99.9 million KRW.
