Gongju City in Chungnam Province has launched efforts to attract private investment for the construction of the Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village, a project with a total budget of 100 billion KRW.
According to the city on the 28th, the plan is to establish the Ungjin Baekje Royal Culture Stay and the Baekje Royal Capital Living Experience Village within the Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village, with construction scheduled to begin in 2016.
This project was selected for the second round of Chungnam Province's Regional Balanced Development Project, securing 40 billion KRW in funding.
The city plans to complete the Baekje Culture Staycation, Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village, Ungjin Myth Museum, and Visual Media Hall by 2030.
On the 25th and 26th, the city invited the Korea-America Economic Association for a two-day workshop to promote private sector investment for the development and tourism revitalization of the Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village.
The city proposed investments in accommodation facilities and banquet halls, and explained various corporate benefits such as regulatory special support.
Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "We will successfully promote the Gongju cultural tourism development project centered on the Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village, making it a hub for Baekje culture and tourism," and added, "We will continue our efforts to turn Baekje's heritage, recognized as a World Heritage site, into a tourism resource."
