The Social Service Group of Yeungjin College (President Choi Jaeyoung) carried out a kimchi-making volunteer activity to share warmth with local neighbors during the winter season.
About 30 participants, including enrolled students, faculty and staff, and international students, took part in the volunteer activity held on the 27th at Daebul Senior Welfare Center in Buk-gu, Daegu.
Yeongjin College foreign students and Korean students are packing kimchi to send to elderly people living alone.
On that day, the volunteer group carefully prepared kimchi and delivered 5kg each to about 100 elderly living alone households in Sangyeok-dong and Bokhyeon-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu.
Kim Dongmin, a second-year student in the AI Convergence Mechanical Department who participated in the volunteer work, said, "I hesitated to join because of the cold weather after early winter rain, but I felt proud thinking about the elderly who would enjoy the kimchi I made."
Aidan, a 21-year-old international student from Azerbaijan studying Korean language courses, said, "I have experience participating in volunteer activities on Disability Day held at Seongbo Rehabilitation Center last April. Through this kimchi-making volunteer work, I am happy to understand Korean culture more deeply and contribute to the local community."
The Social Service Group of Yeungjin College is leading efforts to fulfill social responsibility by conducting various campaigns for environmental protection as well as sharing and caring activities with the local community.
They have been consistently conducting environmental protection campaigns for the Kumho River near the college, held campaigns to reduce disposable products and promote recycling once each in the first and second half of the year, and actively participate in hematopoietic stem cell donation and blood donation through RCY.
Additionally, they deliver love and helping hands to the local community through various volunteer activities at welfare facilities for the elderly, disabled, and children.
Cha Bohyun, head of the Social Service Group (professor), stated, "Our college established the first social service group among nationwide junior colleges in 1997 and operates a system that recognizes social service as academic credit, striving for students' character education. Through this, we instill the value of service in students and achieve the positive effect of a high employment rate."
The Social Service Group of Yeungjin College plans to continue strengthening ties with the local community and leading the practice of coexistence values through various volunteer activities.
