Gyeonggi Province will operate various experience and education programs at the ‘Gyeonggi Food Plaza’ within the Suwon Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus.
On the 28th, Gyeonggi Province announced that from December 7 to 17, it will hold the ‘Cooking Studio Pilot Program’ and ‘Friendship Day’ at the Gyeonggi Food Plaza located in Seodun-dong, Suwon City.
This event was prepared to introduce the Food Plaza to residents and to raise awareness of its roles and functions ahead of its full-scale operation next year.
The Gyeonggi Food Plaza was established to activate the food industry by providing a space that can efficiently utilize local food resources.
It was remodeled from the former Seoul National University glass greenhouse within the Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City, and was completed last month. The facility is on the first floor with a total floor area of 611.45㎡ (approximately 185 pyeong), consisting of offices, studios, and a shared kitchen.
Next month, Gyeonggi Province will invite cooking influencers and professional bakers to conduct four cooking studio sessions: ▲ Gyeonggi Rice Kimbap Master (7th) ▲ Making brunch using eco-friendly ingredients (8th) ▲ Healthy baking made with Gyeonggi rice (14th) ▲ Simple and healthy seasonal school meal menu creation (15th).
Those who wish to participate can apply through the Google registration page via the QR code by the 5th of next month.
On the 17th of next month, ‘Friendship Day’ will also be held. Food education organizations, producers, consumer institutions, and groups will be invited to report on the creation process of the Food Plaza, guide the usage spaces, and then have a session making kimbap using ingredients produced in Gyeonggi Province.
Next year, Gyeonggi Province plans to operate seasonal food cooking classes using the shared kitchen, harvest farm parties, and smart agriculture education programs.
Gong Jeong-sik, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau, said, "The Gyeonggi Food Plaza is an important space that directly connects local food to consumers," adding, "We hope that through the first cooking studio program, the Food Plaza will become a space that can be shared and enjoyed."
