Pushed Elevator Door While Drunk
Fell into Passage... Only Minor Injuries
"Accident Risk Exists, Never Lean on Door"
An accident occurred at a hotel in China where two intoxicated men lost their balance and fell into an elevator shaft.
On the 26th (local time), Malaysian Majority and other foreign media reported that two men at a hotel in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China, pushed open the elevator door and fell. The released closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a man A, dressed in black, supporting another man B who was unable to maintain his balance in the hotel lobby.
Man A attempted to press the elevator button, but man B could not support his own weight. Eventually, both lost their balance and fell, pushing the elevator door and falling down. A staff member stationed in the lobby moved toward the elevator to check the situation. Police and medical personnel who responded to the report rescued the fallen men using a vertical ladder, and it was reported that both men were heavily intoxicated at the time. Fortunately, they only sustained minor bruises and abrasions.
Netizens who saw the video reacted with comments such as "Never lean on elevator doors," "Drinking to the point of losing control of your body is really dangerous," and "It's a relief they weren't seriously injured despite everything."
Meanwhile, elevator fall accidents continue to occur worldwide. In July, a woman named Cleria Ditano living in Fasano, Brindisi area in southern Italy, died after falling when the elevator had not yet arrived. At the time, Ditano pressed the button on the 4th floor of her apartment to go out. However, the elevator door opened even though the elevator had not yet arrived. She extended her foot without realizing this and ultimately fell to her death. An official investigating the accident explained, "The door is supposed to open only when the elevator arrives, but it is presumed there was a problem with the locking mechanism."
Earlier in April, an elevator fall accident also occurred domestically. A woman in her 70s fell into an elevator shaft and died at an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon. It was reported that the woman forced open the door to rescue her pet dog, which could not get on the elevator on the 1st floor, and had the accident. The fire department, who received a report from the apartment management office, immediately dispatched and transported her to the hospital, but the woman was eventually declared dead.
