Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate the 'Geumcheon Future Science Camp' for 60 local elementary and middle school students over two days from November 30 to December 1 at the 12th-floor auditorium of Geumcheon-gu Office.

The 'Geumcheon Future Science Camp' is a program designed to help students experience core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and coding in various ways, fostering their interest in science and supporting their growth into creative scientific talents.

At 11 a.m. on November 30, famous science YouTuber 'Science Cookie' (real name Lee Hyo-jong) will give a science lecture tailored to students' level on the theme of 'A World Coexisting with Artificial Intelligence.'

At 1 p.m., the program 'Meeting of Arduino and Software' will be held, where students will operate traffic lights and liquid crystal displays (LCD) using Arduino. Arduino is a type of small computer implemented to allow easier control of devices such as thermometers or safes in the desired way.

Following this, in 'The Magic of Holograms,' students will create hologram devices in groups and try to realize flat images as three-dimensional images and videos.

On the morning of December 1, the program 'Smart City Geumcheon We Made' will be conducted using conductive pens and electric circuits applying the coding learned the previous day. Students will design and present the elements that the future city of Geumcheon-gu should have in places such as hospitals, schools, parks, and subways.

The final program held in the afternoon is a team competition where participants control 'Technic Robots' to touch a light-emitting diode (LED) device that lights up before their opponents to score points. Each participating student will be assigned one robot, allowing everyone to experience the robot and try to earn points.

A district official said, "Through this camp, students will not only learn technology but also develop convergent thinking and creative problem-solving skills necessary to solve real social problems."

Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope students grow into convergent talents who learn science in a fun and friendly way at the Geumcheon Future Science Camp and naturally think about the future of the local community." He added, "We will continue to prepare various science programs to nurture the future capabilities of youth."

The 'Geumcheon Future Science Camp' is a project to strengthen the capabilities of future talents in the district in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is the final program of the 2024 'Geumcheon Future Science Classroom,' following the 'Local Children's Center Linked Gwacheon Science Museum Exploration Project' and the 'Geumcheon Future Science Classroom Visiting Schools' programs.
