This agreement includes ▲ international cooperation among related organizations for the development of bobsleigh and skeleton winter sports ▲ training of Filipino athletes ▲ support for preparation of domestic bobsleigh and skeleton competitions ▲ mutual sharing of related information and resources.
The agreement involved the participation of the Philippines, a country with inactive winter sports. Currently, two athletes from the Philippine winter sports team are participating in the ‘2024 Winter Sports International Exchange and Athlete Development Project’ jointly promoted by Pyeongchang County and the 2018 Pyeongchang Foundation, focusing on winter training.
Since hosting the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Pyeongchang County has been promoting various projects to spread the Olympic values and utilize the Olympic legacy. As a result, in January, through an MOU with the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, the 2018 Pyeongchang Foundation, and the Korea Bobsleigh Skeleton Federation (KBSF), the IBSF Asia branch was established and IBSF international competitions have been continuously held, enhancing Pyeongchang’s status as a winter sports hub in Asia.
Hwang Seong-hyun, Deputy Governor of Pyeongchang, said, "Through this MOU, we expect the continuous growth and development of winter sports disciplines, and hope to globally promote the value of the Pyeongchang Olympic legacy facilities.”
