Hanam-si to Increase Subway Line 5 Hanam Line Trains by 2 During Morning Rush Hour

Lee Hyun-jae Mayor "Will discuss increasing frequency with Seoul Metro for convenience during rush hours"

Gyeonggi Hanam City (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 27th that starting from December 2, the number of subway Line 5 Hanam Line trains during the morning rush hour will be increased by one trip each in the up and down directions, totaling two additional trips.

This increase is the result of active efforts to shorten subway intervals during the morning rush hour, a pledge of the 8th local government administration. According to this decision, the Hanam Line of Line 5 will operate one additional up-bound train (Hanam Geomdansan Station → Gangdong Station) departing Hanam Geomdansan Station at 8:06 AM, and one additional down-bound train (Gangdong Station → Hanam Geomdansan Station) departing Gangdong Station at 8:35 AM, totaling two additional trips during the morning rush hour.

The main line section at Gangdong Station, where the Macheon Line and Hanam Line overlap, has been difficult to add train formations, causing inconvenience to many citizens. Therefore, Hanam City conducted close consultations with the Seoul Metro Corporation, the entrusted operator, to adjust train intervals and alleviate congestion during the morning rush hour, resulting in the addition of two more train operations during this time.

Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, “With this increase in train operations, trains will run from Hanam Geomdansan Station to Gangdong Station (turnaround) and back to Hanam Geomdansan Station during the morning rush hour, significantly enhancing the convenience of public transportation for citizens.” He emphasized, “Hanam City will continue to consult closely with Seoul Metro Corporation to alleviate congestion and improve convenience during the evening rush hour as well.”

Meanwhile, Hanam City, through close consultations with Seoul Metro Corporation, has previously achieved an increase in the number of subway Line 5 Hanam Line operations from 173 trips (average interval 10.6 minutes) at the time of initial opening to 187 trips (average interval 7.5 minutes) in 2023 by adding 5 train formations.
