Since 2022, Gyeongnam National University has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency to promote exchanges in the field of forensic science, strengthening mutual research capabilities and competitiveness. They have been working together on joint research for the development of forensic science equipment and techniques to advance forensic science and improve the quality of public safety.

The talk concert held on the 26th was overseen by Odongwook, Chief of the Criminal Division at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency. The session was moderated by Kim Jeonghak, Head of the Forensic Science Division at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency. To increase public interest and understanding of forensic science, a fictional case was presented, and expert panels from forensic science and legal psychology fields solved the case using forensic techniques in a storytelling format.

The expert panel included Park Junggi, Head of the Metropolitan Forensic Science Team 7; Park Hyungap from the Traffic Investigation Division of the Community Safety Department; Jeong Jaebak from the Coroner Investigation Team; Park Hwayoung from the Metropolitan Forensic Science Team 8; Lee Minha from the Metropolitan Forensic Science Team 4; and Kim Seongsu from the Metropolitan Forensic Science Team 1, who engaged with attendees and students.

Afterwards, members of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency and police science students participated together in various experiential learning activities related to forensic science. The event was attended by over 100 people, including Odongwook, Chief of the Criminal Division, 12 forensic scientists from the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, faculty members, and students from the Department of Police Science at Gyeongnam National University, making it a great success.

Kim Dowoo, Head of the Department of Police Science, said, “We are grateful to Chief Superintendent Odongwook and all related personnel at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency for providing this valuable experience to hear diverse stories about forensic science with active professionals.” He added, “Since the Department of Police Science at Gyeongnam National University operates a forensic science laboratory for theory and practice, we will continue to nurture talent that will lead the development of forensic science together with the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency.”
