'Maserati' Logo on Fingernail of Woman in Her 20s... "Seek Medical Attention Immediately Upon Discovery"

A woman in her 20s in China attracted attention when small protrusions resembling the 'Maserati' logo appeared on her fingernails. However, experts have pointed out that if such symptoms are discovered, one should immediately visit a hospital.

According to Chinese media such as sohu.com on the 26th, Shan Shan, a 24-year-old woman from Hangzhou, China, visited a hospital after the small protrusions on her fingernails grew. The trident-shaped protrusions near the base of her nails resembled the iconic logo of the luxury car brand 'Maserati.'

After examination, a dermatologist diagnosed the protrusions on Shan Shan's nails as a type of fibroma called 'hypertrophic granulation tissue.' Granulation tissue is a new connective tissue rich in capillaries, which can form as the body's response to fill in defects after skin diseases or external physical damage.

The attending physician explained, "Frequent nail art is the cause," adding, "When applying nail art, artificial nails are often attached over natural nails, and even if they seem light, significant pressure is applied to the nails." The doctor further stated, "Continuous use of chemical adhesives can damage the nails and cause cracks, through which new granulation tissue can form."

In fact, Shan Shan reportedly changed her nail polish color every three days and extended her nails or attached decorative nail parts once a week.

To prevent such issues, the doctor advised, "When doing nail art, it is best to apply nail polish at intervals of at least two weeks to allow the nails sufficient time to recover." Additionally, the doctor emphasized, "To minimize the risk of infection, reduce the use of artificial nails, avoid improper removal methods, and use personal or disposable tools."

It is recommended to visit a hospital and have granulation tissue removed as soon as it is discovered. If granulation tissue is not properly removed or repeatedly grows back, it can cause severe odor and discharge, and may worsen into a granuloma (an inflammatory mass formed by clusters of white blood cells such as macrophages). Granulation tissue is mainly removed using lasers.

Currently, Shan Shan has had the granulation tissue removed and reportedly removed all nail art from her nails.
