Cooperation in Counseling, Awareness Improvement Education, Interpretation, and Legal Advice Support for Foreign Seasonal Workers

Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion Agency announced on the 27th that it signed a tripartite business agreement on the 26th with the Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Welfare Center Directors Council and the Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Human Rights Support Center to enhance the human rights of foreign seasonal workers.

The signing ceremony held at the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion Agency was attended by about 10 officials, including Choi Chang-su, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion Agency, Kim Yong-guk, Chairman of the Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Welfare Center Directors Council, and Oh Kyung-seok, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Human Rights Support Center.

The Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Welfare Center Directors Council is an organization composed of about 10 foreigner welfare support centers in the province, developing various policies to support the settlement of foreign immigrants, such as medical care, life counseling, and multicultural talent development.

The Gyeonggi-do Foreigners Human Rights Support Center is an institution that provides human rights counseling for foreign workers and researches remedies to prevent discrimination. It supports legal and labor-related consultations and studies policies to improve the human rights of foreign workers.

This agreement was promoted to help foreign seasonal workers adapt to rural areas by enhancing their human rights amid the increasing shortage of rural labor due to local extinction, and to establish sustainable agriculture and rural communities.

Each institution plans to provide communication support such as interpretation, human rights counseling, and legal advice for foreign seasonal workers, and conduct awareness improvement education regarding foreign seasonal workers.

Choi Chang-su, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion Agency, said, “We signed this agreement to enable coexistence between foreign seasonal workers and farmers,” adding, “We will do our best to resolve concerns about human rights violations of foreign seasonal workers and to facilitate their smooth adaptation to rural areas.”

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion Agency is promoting the ‘Foreign Seasonal Workers Operation Management Support Project’ through the operation of the ‘Gyeonggi-do Rural Workforce Support Center,’ which includes on-site counseling related to the working environment and human rights of foreign seasonal workers and education to improve employers’ awareness.
