President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized on the 27th, "In the future, the approximately 12,000 North Korean soldiers who participated in the (Russia-Ukraine war) can share their combat experience with the entire North Korean military, which numbers over one million," adding, "Thorough military preparedness is required."
President Yoon made these remarks during the promotion and appointment reporting ceremony for lieutenant generals and the awarding of the Samjeonggeom insignia held at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon.
He stated, "The current security situation on the Korean Peninsula and globally is grave," and added, "Recently, North Korea has seriously threatened peace not only in South Korea but also in the international community by dispatching large-scale troops to Russia, beyond nuclear and missile provocations. The expectations that I and the people place on you, who have been entrusted with such a critical mission at this crucial time, are very high."
He continued, "Please keep in mind that the morale of the soldiers is directly linked to national defense and security," and said, "I hope you will warmly and affectionately take care of the junior officers and soldiers on the ground. As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I have infinite trust in the military and in you all, and I will always firmly support you."
On this day, President Yoon received promotion and appointment reports from newly appointed Lieutenant General Joo Il-seok, Commander of the Marine Corps; Lieutenant General Kang Jeong-ho, Commander of Naval Education; Lieutenant General Kim Gyeong-ryul, Superintendent of the Naval Academy; Lieutenant General Son Jeong-hwan, Chief of Strategic Planning at the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Lieutenant General Park Gi-wan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force; and Lieutenant General Cha Jun-seon, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, and awarded them the Samjeonggeom insignia (a flag with a cord).
After attaching the insignia indicating their positions to the Samjeonggeom swords of the promoted lieutenant generals and encouraging them, he presented bouquets to their spouses and took commemorative photos together.
The event was attended by Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo, Director of the National Security Office Shin Won-sik, and Deputy Director of the National Security Office In Seong-hwan, among others.
