On the 26th, Dangjin City in South Chungcheong Province announced that it received the Encouragement Award in the environmental sector of the Best Practices category at the 14th Local Government Productivity Awards ceremony held at the Government Complex Seoul.

The "Local Government Productivity Awards" is hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and organized by the Korea Productivity Center. It is held annually to measure the efforts and capabilities of basic local governments to improve residents' quality of life and public services from a productivity perspective, and to motivate the enhancement of local administration productivity by evaluating and rewarding outstanding cases.

This year, 139 local governments submitted 359 entries in four sectors: economy, environment, culture, and welfare. After the first round of document review and the second round of presentations, 12 final cases were selected.

Dangjin City was honored in the environmental sector with its case titled, "Coexistence over Crackdowns... Livestock Odor! Finding Solutions in Dangjin!"

To improve livestock odor and residential conditions, the city formed the "Livestock Odor Improvement Council," which included participation from the public sector, experts, livestock organizations, and livestock farmers, to seek ways for cooperative coexistence. At the same time, the city promoted a shift in awareness of the livestock environment through education for livestock farmers and professional consulting.

Mayor Oh Seonghwan stated, "As a result of these efforts, the modernization of livestock facilities has led to a reduction in odors and increased productivity for livestock farmers, which received positive evaluations. We will continue to realize administration that citizens can truly feel."
