Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 27th that it operates the "Twelve Months Themed Library," selecting a special theme each month to provide citizens with timely and systematic reading support.
The theme for December is "Our Home is Bungse-gwon," a newly coined term referring to an area or district located near a shop selling bungeoppang (fish-shaped bread filled with sweet red bean paste).
Inspired by bungeoppang, a representative winter snack, this theme introduces books related to sweet treats that come to mind when winter arrives with dropping temperatures and cold winds.
This month's recommended books are "Tangerine Person" (general book, written and illustrated by Kim Seong-ra), a story by an author born and raised in Jeju based on the experience of harvesting tangerines in December, and "Row of Hotteok" (children's book, written and illustrated by Kim Yu-gyeong), which tells the story of a mole and friends making large hotteok (Korean sweet pancakes) as big as the moon.
A library official said, "Through the December themed books, we hope people will recall the winter snacks that excite us even in the cold weather and enjoy sweet and joyful moments."
