Yeoju City Conducts Comprehensive Crackdown on Illegal Distribution of 'Yeoju Sarang Card' in Second Half of 2024

Focused Crackdown on Specific Industries Using Yeoju Sarang Card Until December 6

Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 27th that it will launch an intensive crackdown in the second half of 2024 to eradicate the illegal circulation of the local currency 'Yeoju Sarang Card'.

The crackdown period is from the 25th of last month until December 6th. The main targets of the crackdown are ▲illegal receipt and illegal exchange (receiving or exchanging gift certificates without selling goods or providing services) ▲cases where affiliated stores operate restricted business types (entertainment establishments, immoral businesses, etc.) ▲and other cases deemed necessary for enforcement.


This comprehensive crackdown will be conducted by visiting suspicious sites based on the affiliated store data list and reports from residents for verification.


An official from Yeoju City's Job and Economy Division requested cooperation, stating, "To secure the sustainability and reliability of the local currency system and prevent the outflow of local funds outside the region, both users of the Yeoju Sarang Card and affiliated store owners must work together to create a healthy circulation culture."


When illegal circulation is detected, the registration of the Yeoju Sarang Card affiliated store may be canceled, and a fine of up to 20 million KRW may be imposed according to relevant laws. Additionally, if an investigation into violations is refused, obstructed, or evaded, a fine of up to 5 million KRW may also be imposed.
