A story has emerged about a woman who nearly lost her life after undergoing a surgery called 'BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift),' also known as 'buttock augmentation surgery.'

According to foreign media including The Sun on the 25th (local time), a 27-year-old British woman named Bonnie Lewis Cooper underwent a BBL to add volume to her buttocks. She was reassured by the clinic performing the surgery that "the liquid used in the procedure causes no pain and no separate rest time is needed." However, shortly after the surgery began, Bonnie started sweating and vomiting, and eventually lost consciousness.

She was transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with acute sepsis and was told she could die within an hour. Sepsis is a condition that can occur from wound infections and has a mortality rate of 38%. Bonnie recalled, "I couldn't stop crying because I thought of my child," and added, "It felt like my abdomen was being twisted. The pain was worse than childbirth." She also said, "0.5L of filler was injected into each side of my buttocks, and I could feel the cannula being pushed under the skin into my buttocks." Fortunately, she overcame the critical phase, received treatment, and returned home. However, she had to take two types of antibiotics for a month and is still reportedly taking painkillers.

BBL is considered one of the most dangerous cosmetic surgeries with the highest mortality rate among various beauty procedures. According to the UK's National Health Service (NHS), the risk of death from BBL is at least 10 times higher than that of many other cosmetic procedures. In May last year, an American female model who admired the figure of Kim Kardashian, famous for her buttocks, died from cardiac arrest after receiving silicone injections.

Pop star SZA also confessed to having undergone BBL in 2022. In an interview with British Vogue on the 14th, she said, "I dedicated myself to working out but was not satisfied with my buttocks, so I had a BBL," adding, "I am so angry that I did that." She expressed regret, saying, "During recovery, I tried not to move to preserve the fat. I gained a lot of weight. It was really stupid."
