M83, a leading player in the domestic visual effects (VFX) industry, is showing strong performance. The news that it has consecutively secured orders in China, one of the world's largest content markets that had been firmly closed since the COVID-19 pandemic, appears to be influencing its stock price.
As of 1:56 PM on the 27th, M83 is trading at 14,470 KRW, up 17.83% from the previous day.
M83 announced that it has been selected as the main VFX production company for the new space SF fantasy film ‘Seonghaipmong (Thousand Hundred Sweet Dreams)’, directed by Han Yeon, who is regarded as a next-generation director in China. Baek Kyung-soo, M83’s vice president with over 20 years of experience and expertise, is participating as the overall VFX supervisor, overseeing the project from pre-production to maximizing technical perfection.
M83’s subsidiary Motorhead is also making a notable impact in the Chinese content market. Motorhead was responsible for the VFX production of ‘Dongjido’, the new film by director Guan Hu, which is considered one of China’s largest blockbuster prospects.
A company representative explained, "Technology is not just a tool but the core of storytelling," adding that under this philosophy, they are implementing collaboration strategies tailored to the cultures, markets, and demands of each country’s works, providing unique and differentiated visual experiences in the global content market and establishing themselves as a global VFX leader.
Leading figures in the industry, including first-generation VFX supervisor and CEO Jeong Seong-jin, who led the domestic VFX industry’s first entry into the Chinese content market, as well as Motorhead’s CEOs Noh Geuk-tae and Han Tae-jung, and SPMC’s CEO Yoon Ra-ul, are at the center, continuously achieving results based on strong overseas networks and technological capabilities.
Through veteran Chinese VFX producers affiliated with the subsidiary ‘Super Power Mechanic Creature (SPMC)’, M83 provides close and professional VFX management and supervision solutions, continuing strategic networking collaborations with leading Chinese VFX companies and various entertainment technology firms.
CEO Jeong Seong-jin stated, "M83 Group is a company with much more to show than what it has done so far," and added, "Through organic synergy among group companies, we will leap forward as a comprehensive content production company on the global stage beyond Asia through relentless challenges and innovation."
M83 is reportedly discussing cooperation with major Chinese corporations for the production of immersive content for large-scale theme park construction. Through this, it is expected to actively expand into large-scale entertainment businesses within China and secure a dominant position in the Chinese content market, leading to sustained growth in the future.
