On the 26th at 2 p.m., Yangsan City in Gyeongnam conducted a joint wildfire response drill at Tongdosa Temple.
This drill was organized to strengthen the cooperation system among related organizations to protect forests and cultural assets in the event of a wildfire and to assess practical response capabilities.
A total of about 80 participants from related organizations took part in the drill, including Yangsan City’s Forest Division and Culture and Tourism Division, the Yangsan Forest Aviation Management Office of the Korea Forest Service, and the Yangsan Fire Station.
The main training contents included establishing a joint response system between Yangsan City’s specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team and forest-related departments, checking stable supply plans for firefighting water, and constructing firebreaks for initial fire suppression and prevention of fire spread in forest area cultural assets and temples.
In particular, Tongdosa Temple, designated as a World Cultural Heritage site, was selected as the training location to conduct suppression training focused on protecting cultural assets. During the drill, measures to simultaneously protect forests and cultural assets and on-site response readiness were checked, and rapid and systematic countermeasures in case of wildfire occurrence were discussed.
A Yangsan City official stated, “This drill served as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of cooperation among related organizations for the protection of forests and cultural assets,” adding, “We will continue to minimize damage caused by wildfires through ongoing training and prevention activities.”
