Jeju Special Self-Governing Province received the Prime Minister's Award, the highest prize, at the '2024 Active Administration Best Practices Competition Finals' held at the Government Sejong Complex.

In this competition jointly hosted by the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Personnel Management, Jeju Province received the top evaluation among 137 excellent cases from local governments nationwide.

The awarded case, "The nation's first commercial drone delivery service to affiliated islands and the establishment of a public-private-military-police integrated cooperation system and drone integrated safety control system," demonstrated Jeju's innovative administrative services.

Since 2019, Jeju has been selected for four consecutive years as a drone demonstration city for the first time nationwide, securing a total of 3.88 billion KRW in national funding. By delivering daily necessities via drones to residents of remote islands such as Biyangdo, Marado, and Gapado, which are logistics blind spots, the quality of life has improved. Jeju has continuously expanded drone-utilized administrative services, achieving results such as designation as the nation's largest drone special free zone and selection as an excellent local government.

Additionally, by establishing a drone integrated safety management system through a public-private-military-police complex cooperation system, safety management and emergency response systems were strengthened. Various festivals and events, including the '2024 Jeju Drone Light Show,' were successfully held, raising nationwide public interest in the drone industry.

Jeju's achievements in 'active administration' have greatly contributed to securing residents' acceptance of the new drone industry and expanding its industrial base. It is expected to lead Jeju as a future-leading city by promoting the urban air mobility (UAM) industry, known as the 'flying taxi.'

Choi Myung-dong, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office, stated, "This award is the fruit of the passion of public officials who have continuously challenged and innovated to improve the quality of life for residents," and emphasized, "We will continue to turn Jeju's geographical limitations into new opportunities and do our best to provide innovative administrative services that all residents can feel."
