President-elect of the United States Donald Trump is expected to nominate Jameson Greer as the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
Bloomberg News reported on the 26th (local time), citing sources, that the Trump transition team is preparing to announce the appointment of former USTR Chief of Staff Greer as the USTR representative.
Greer is a trade expert and a close aide to Robert Lighthizer, who served as USTR representative during Trump's first administration. He served as Lighthizer's Chief of Staff at that time.
Bloomberg explained that choosing former Chief of Staff Greer emphasizes that tariffs will play a central role in the economic agenda of Trump's second administration. During the campaign, Trump pledged to increase tax revenue and manufacturing jobs through tariffs. The day before, Trump announced that on his first day in office, he would sign an executive order imposing tariffs of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico, and 10% on imports from China.
