Self-Employed Community Criticizes '20s Part-Time Workers'
"Can't Even Do One Person's Job Properly... Lack Basic Courtesy"
"Worse Than Customer Stress" vs "Divide and Conquer"
An owner of a small business expressed strong resentment toward part-time workers in their 20s, sparking a heated debate among netizens.
On the 27th, a post titled "No matter how desperate you are for staff, please do not hire people in their 20s" was shared widely on social media after being posted on the online community for small business owners, 'Apeunikka Sajangida' (Because It Hurts, I'm the Boss). The author, Mr. A, opened by saying, "I've been burned multiple times. It seems to be getting worse. This generation knows only how to claim rights without skills or abilities," and added, "These days, it's really too much."
Mr. A described people in their 20s as "I don't even expect responsibility. I just wish they would properly handle their own tasks, but that seems difficult. Even when taught one, they only manage half," and lamented, "It seems they only think about how to get by comfortably and go home." He also blamed their upbringing, saying, "Even if they are bad at work, I would reluctantly keep them if they had basic manners, but they don't. This generation lacks consideration for others."
He continued, "If they hear any criticism at work, they don't try to resolve it on the spot but instead tell their parents, who then call me. I thought it was a parent-teacher conference," and questioned, "Why should I spend my own money to hire and serve such people?" He also mentioned, "There are talks that companies don't hire people in their 20s because of this, but it's ridiculous to say that kids who can't even handle part-time jobs properly are being hired," and urged, "Parents raising children, please stop spoiling them."
He went on to say, "Never hire people in their early 20s. They are more stressful than customers," and expressed strong rejection, "It seems better for everyone if this generation is left behind." Although the post contained somewhat intense emotions, other small business owners sympathized, commenting things like, "They can't work but know labor laws well," "They have rights but no duties," and "They're adults, but their parents still call...".
However, some expressed concerns about Mr. A's generalizations, saying, "The generational divide is very severe," "Even if they are difficult, creating the workplace atmosphere is ultimately the owner's ability," and "Is it wrong to contact the labor office to get unpaid wages?"
