Gwanglim Signs MOU with Korea Maritime Technology to Launch Renewable Energy Project

Gwanglim, a company specializing in mobile cranes and special vehicles, is officially launching its domestic renewable energy business.

On the 27th, Gwanglim announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic partnership with Korea Marine Technology at its headquarters in Cheongju, Chungbuk on the 26th.

This agreement was established to strengthen the cooperative system for the successful development and investment of renewable energy power generation projects by both companies. The main contents include domestic offshore and onshore wind power operation and maintenance, subsea cable design and installation, new business development, and project management.

Earlier, Gwanglim obtained a power generation business license from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in August 2022. Currently, it is in the process of obtaining permits for a 160MW offshore wind power complex in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeonnam, and is preparing to submit a strategic environmental impact assessment next month.

According to the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association, the offshore wind power market is expected to grow rapidly by nearly 31% by 2027, centered on China and Europe. It is predicted to continue growing steadily by about 12% annually thereafter. In addition, emerging wind power countries such as the United States and Taiwan are also showing steady growth, and onshore wind power is currently growing by more than 7%.

Korea Marine Technology was established in 1993 by experts and technicians from various fields to advance marine technology. Its main tasks include marine underwater engineering, marine basic surveys, and subsea cable construction.

Furthermore, the company established the corporate research institute 'Korea Marine Technology Research Institute' to secure technological innovation and expertise through research and development (R&D) tasks such as renewable energy R&D and marine structure stability evaluation.

Seunghwan Ahn, Chairman of Korea Marine Technology, stated, "Through collaboration with Gwanglim, we will further strengthen our competitiveness in existing cable installation and operation maintenance fields and accelerate new business development."

Gwanglim is a company that manufactures, produces, and supplies mobile cranes and special vehicles. Since its establishment in 1979, it has practiced management with values expanded from work environment focus to safety, convenience, and living environment.

Taeyoung Song, CEO of Gwanglim, said, "Through close cooperation between the companies, the development of domestic renewable energy power generation projects will accelerate further. We plan to build various systems to foster specialized personnel in the future by enhancing competitiveness in domestic offshore and onshore wind power operation and maintenance."
