Musk Likely to Influence Appointment of AI Czar
Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, is reportedly considering appointing an 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Czar' at the White House.
On the 26th (local time), the American internet media Axios reported this, citing sources from Trump’s transition team.
The newly established AI Czar position in Trump’s second term is expected to be responsible for coordinating federal government policies and government utilization of AI. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) newly created by Trump, along with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, are anticipated to have significant influence over the appointment of the AI Czar. However, the media reported that Musk will not serve as the AI Czar.
The AI Czar to be established at the White House will be tasked with concentrating public and private resources to maintain the United States’ leading position in the AI field. There is also a strong possibility of cooperation with the already established Chief AI Officer (CAIO), created based on President Joe Biden’s AI executive order. It is expected that AI will be utilized to eradicate fraud, abuse, and waste such as the misuse of social security benefits, in collaboration with the Department of Government Efficiency led by Musk.
As initially reported, the AI Czar position being considered by Trump’s transition team for establishment at the White House may be merged with the position of Cryptocurrency Chief, which is also under review. Earlier, Bloomberg News reported that the transition team is in discussions with the industry to create a dedicated cryptocurrency policy position at the White House.
