Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) promoted a mural painting, fence painting, and building number plate installation event on the 26th at Guilak Village in Jail-dong as part of the ‘Creating a Flower-Scented Village Good for Walking’ project.

Despite the bad weather, about 30 people including village residents, volunteers, the mayor, and the city council chairman participated in the event hosted by the Guilak Village Development Committee to improve the village’s aesthetics.

In particular, the building number plates were uniquely designed with images of rice paddies, fields, the sky, and the city flower, trumpet creeper, after a residents’ meeting, and were attached to all households in the village.

Guilak Village is a natural hamlet located in the northeasternmost part of Uijeongbu. To preserve the value of the village with its rural landscape, trumpet creepers were planted at the entrance and other areas to create a ‘flower-scented village good for walking,’ and a Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) path was established through pruning and replanting work.

Choi Young-dal, chairman of the Guilak Village Development Committee, said, “Next year, we plan to plant Kochia to harmonize with the trumpet creepers and organize various experiential events such as harvesting and selling agricultural products like corn and potatoes, and walking along village paths, making it a village where people want to stay and walk throughout all four seasons.” He added, “We expect it to become a local tourist attraction.”

Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “Guilak Village, which is close to the city center and has beautiful natural scenery, will do its best to become a village where citizens can rest and enjoy leisure, a village good for walking.”
