Establishing a Foundation for Regional Innovation and Cooperation Toward the Future in Partnership with Handong University

On the 26th, Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang City gave a special lecture at Handong Global University titled "The Big Blur of Pohang City and Handong Global University Leaping into the World," focusing on the future of local youth and development strategies for Pohang City.

In the lecture, Mayor Lee presented a vision where Pohang City and Handong Global University collaborate for mutual growth, addressing the concerns of young people and achieving sustainable regional development.

He also explained new job creation plans related to the city's ongoing promotion of new industries such as secondary batteries, biotechnology, hydrogen fuel cells, and the MICE industry, as well as efforts to establish a medical school at POSTECH, attract international schools for nurturing global talent, and build medical and educational environments through designation as a youth-friendly city.

In particular, he emphasized that Pohang City and Handong Global University must jointly find solutions to major issues faced by youth, including employment, housing, and future vision, and described Pohang City's efforts to support young adults' independence through rental housing and residential welfare programs for youth.

After the lecture, Mayor Lee responded to questions from attending students and faculty, promising to continue striving to realize the dreams and visions of young people and to create an exemplary model of mutual growth between the region and the university.

Mayor Lee Gang-deok stated, "I hope Pohang City and Handong Global University can leverage each other's strengths to jointly envision the future of young people," adding, "Pohang City will grow into a city where youth can live and work proudly, and by joining hands with Handong Global University, we will lay the foundation for regional innovation and cooperation toward the future, advancing as a city with global competitiveness."
