National Tax Service: Payment Due by December 16
Installments Available up to 6 Months for Tax Amounts Exceeding 3 Million Won
This year, the number of comprehensive real estate tax (종합부동산세) subjects is 548,000, an increase of 48,000 compared to last year.
The National Tax Service announced on the 26th that tax payment notices for the 2024 comprehensive real estate tax liability will be sent sequentially starting from the 25th of this month, and the notified comprehensive real estate tax must be paid by December 16.
According to the National Tax Service, the total number of people notified and the tax amount for this year's comprehensive real estate tax are 548,000 and 5 trillion KRW, respectively, with the number of notified people increasing by 48,000 and the tax amount increasing by 300 billion KRW compared to the previous year. Among the total notified people and tax amount, the housing portion accounts for 460,000 people and 1.6 trillion KRW, while the land portion accounts for 110,000 people and 3.4 trillion KRW.
If the comprehensive real estate tax payment amount (including the special rural development tax) exceeds 3 million KRW, installment payments are possible for up to 6 months without any additional interest charges.
Additionally, elderly taxpayers (aged 60 or older) and long-term holders (holding for 5 years or more) who meet certain conditions among one-household one-homeowners can defer payment of the housing portion of the comprehensive real estate tax until the occurrence of reasons such as transfer, gift, or inheritance of the house, provided they offer tax payment security. Deferral applications can be made through Hometax.
Taxpayers whose comprehensive real estate tax notification details are incorrect or who failed to report (apply for) exclusion from aggregation or special cases can voluntarily report and pay by the payment deadline. When filing electronically using Hometax, various helpful materials such as 'Real-time Taxable Property Inquiry' and 'Pre-filled Service' are available to assist with the filing.
