Yangsan City in Gyeongnam selected orthopedic surgeon Lee Dong-hyun and nurse assistant Jo Hye-in, both from Mulgeum-eup, as the 9th and 10th “Righteous Citizens of Yangsan” through the Righteous Citizens Review Committee, and on the 26th, presented each with a certificate of recognition and consolation money of 1 million won.

Both individuals work at an orthopedic clinic located in Gachon-ri, Mulgeum-eup. On September 27, while preparing to leave work, they recognized a patient with an open fracture of the right lower limb caused by a traffic accident involving a car and a motorcycle. Before the arrival of the emergency medical team, they provided initial emergency treatment and handed over the patient to the emergency team (Mulgeum 119 Safety Center). Following an application by the Yangsan Fire Station for recognition as righteous citizens, their actions were officially acknowledged.
Mayor Na Dong-yeon stated, “I pay tribute to their noble actions in saving the patient through prompt emergency treatment at the traffic accident scene despite the chaotic situation caused by medical service gaps and emergency room operation disruptions.” He added, “The city will continue to do its best to discover and honor those who protect the safety and lives of citizens as righteous citizens.”
Since 2012, Yangsan City has enacted the “Ordinance on the Treatment and Support of Righteous Citizens of Yangsan” to continuously discover and reward “Righteous Citizens” who save the lives, bodies, or property of others in danger or who suffer injury or damage as a result of such acts, thereby setting an example for the citizens.
