On the 26th, Dangjin City in South Chungcheong Province signed a business agreement at the South Chungcheong Provincial Government with South Chungcheong Province, Korea South-East Power, and Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group to establish the 'Dangjin Green Energy Hub' and pledged to cooperate in creating a clean energy complex.

Through this agreement, Korea South-East Power and Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group plan to review the construction of a 900MW hydrogen-fired power plant, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and a data center near the Songsan Pier in Dangjin, as part of a clean energy complex.

In addition, by establishing green hydrogen power generation facilities, they aim to achieve the national greenhouse gas reduction target (NDC), realize carbon neutrality by 2050, and contribute to Dangjin City's energy transition.

Furthermore, improvements in residents' living conditions through various support projects and revitalization of the local economy through the promotion of construction projects are also expected.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Oh Seonghwan of Dangjin, Governor Kim Taeheum of South Chungcheong Province, Kang Kiyoon, President of Korea South-East Power, and Lee Byungsoo, Vice President of Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group, who pledged mutual cooperation for the successful promotion of the Dangjin Green Energy Hub.

Mayor Oh Seonghwan stated, "Dangjin stands at a new starting point for building a hydrogen ecosystem that leads energy transition and climate change response," and added, "We will do our utmost to establish a sustainable green hydrogen industry ecosystem as a new growth engine for Dangjin City."

Meanwhile, Dangjin City has been pursuing the designation as a hydrogen city (the first in South Chungcheong) in 2022, the signing of a hydrogen-ammonia pier agreement in 2022 (the nation's first carbon-neutral port), a hydrogen transportation complex base in 2024, and a carbon capture-based hydrogen production base in 2025.

Additionally, last month, Dangjin was selected as a 'Net-Zero City,' a carbon-neutral leading city jointly promoted by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, further enhancing its status as a leader in carbon neutrality.
