Mayor Joo Gwang-deok: "Will actively cooperate with LH to focus on underground public sewage treatment facilities in Jingun"
President Lee Han-jun: "Connecting Dasan, District, and Wangsuk District... A new axis of economy, administration, and culture will be established"
Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) signed a basic agreement on the 26th at the City Hall Yeoyudang with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to expedite the relocation (undergrounding) of the Jingeon public sewage treatment facility.

This agreement was prepared based on the "Joint Business Agreement for the Specialized Development of the Namyangju Area" signed by Namyangju City and LH in May last year.
LH will incorporate the existing Jingeon public sewage treatment facility site into the Wangsuk District to be used for national housing stability and the government's housing supply expansion policy, and relocate and integrate the replacement sewage treatment facility within the Wangsuk District, transferring it to our city free of charge.
According to the agreement, the city will promote the relocation and integrated installation of the existing public sewage treatment facility (125,000 tons/day) within the Wangsuk District in connection with the 3rd New Town Wangsuk Public Housing District development project.
The current Jingeon public sewage treatment facility is a non-covered (above-ground) type Phase 1 facility (80,000 tons/day), which has been causing environmental nuisance factors around the facility, including continuous odor complaints from nearby residents.
So far, the city has steadily implemented environmental improvement projects such as installing odor prevention facilities to resolve the issue, but a fundamental solution has not been achieved.
Therefore, the plan is to relocate the entire sewage treatment facility, including not only the existing non-covered facility but also the underground facility, to the Wangsuk District and promote complete underground reconstruction.
Through this, the city expects effects such as odor reduction and environmental improvement, sewage treatment efficiency, and cost savings for future facility reconstruction.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, "This agreement lays the foundation for citizens to live healthy lives in a more pleasant environment and is aimed at achieving the optimal goals for both Namyangju City and LH. We will actively cooperate with LH to make every effort for the successful construction of the relocation (undergrounding) of the Jingeon public sewage treatment facility."
LH President Lee Han-jun stated, "Through the undergrounding of the public sewage treatment facility, the upper space will be established as an eco-friendly living convenience space, and the Dasan District and Wangsuk District will be connected as one, creating a new economic, administrative, and cultural hub for Namyangju City."
