Lee Wan-seop, Mayor of Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, presented the direction for next year's municipal administration during a policy address at the 300th regular session of the Seosan City Council on the 25th.
Mayor Lee highlighted, “Balanced transportation infrastructure is being established throughout the city,” citing major achievements such as the groundbreaking of the Seosan?Yeongdeok Expressway Dae-san to Dangjin section and Seosan's selection as one of Korea’s seven major cruise cities following the launch of the first international cruise ship in the Chungcheong region.
He also emphasized that these accomplishments were achieved together with Seosan’s 180,000 citizens, mentioning the full-scale introduction of an intelligent monitoring system at the Urban Safety Integrated Center, selection as the only region in Chungcheong for the digital logistics service demonstration support project, four consecutive years of being selected for the drone demonstration city project, an 860 billion KRW investment agreement with Enilivesa, and the opening of the Eastern Health and Lifestyle Support Center.
Mayor Lee stated that, in response to rapidly changing external circumstances and the need for sound fiscal management, the city will vigorously move forward toward a “Leap Forward Seosan, Livable Seosan” centered on five key municipal policies.
To realize a “prosperous economic city,” the city will promote projects such as the construction of a public parking lot and Green Plaza in the Yechon district, establishment of the Seosan City Facilities Management Corporation, creation of a Youth Culture Center in the Suseok Agricultural and Industrial Complex, and the Fishing Village New Vitalization Project.
To build a “welfare city without worries,” the city will ease requirements for postpartum care support for families with newborns, construct a National Sports Center for the Disabled and a Welfare Center for the Disabled, and host the 31st Chungcheongnam-do Sports Festival for the Disabled.
To advance as a “city of refined culture,” the city will steadily push forward the (tentatively named) Seosan City Culture and Arts Town project and promote Haemi International Holy Site as a world-class K-pilgrimage destination.
Additionally, the city aims to further develop the Seosan Haemieupseong Festival?which attracted a record 270,000 visitors this year?into a world-class festival.
To invigorate the local economy as a “tourism city that satisfies all five senses,” the city will work toward the successful operation of the international cruise ship departing from Daesan Port in Seosan next May and actively seek to attract home ports, secondary ports, and port calls in the future.
Through the 14th Seosan Asia Bird Expo, the city will widely promote Cheonsuman in Seosan, a globally renowned migratory bird habitat, as a center for ecological tourism, and, starting with the groundbreaking of a natural recreation forest this year, will establish customized forest welfare spaces for each life stage by 2027.
To become a “city of hope with vision,” the city will focus administrative efforts on constructing a new city hall and plans to stably complete a resource recovery facility that will become a local landmark.
Mayor Lee Wan-seop stated, “The upcoming year 2025 is the Year of the Blue Snake, which carries auspicious energy and shares the character ‘Seo (瑞)’ with Seosan City,” adding, “With the extensive administrative experience accumulated so far, I will make 2025 the year of Seosan City by adding a forward-looking, insightful approach of ‘Beopgochangsin (法古創新)’?creating new things based on the old.”
