Paju-si Promotes Winter Migratory Bird Conservation Projects Including Feeding Wild Birds Paju City is promoting a winter migratory bird conservation project to provide a space where winter migratory birds can obtain stable food and rest, in order to preserve areas with excellent ecosystems. This project targets farmland areas within the Civilian Control Line in Tanhyeon-myeon along the Imjin River, including Seongdong-ri, Nakha-ri, Ogeum-ri, Daedong-ri, and Munji-ri. This area is known as a major habitat for various winter migratory birds such as the White-naped Crane and the Greater White-fronted Goose, and is recognized as an optimal habitat with restricted civilian access.

The city plans to provide stable food for winter migratory birds by spreading about 50 tons of rice seeds over approximately 4.8 million square meters of farmland. Additionally, rice straw will be left intact over an area of 1,269,000 square meters, and a 40,000 square meter resting area will be created to offer a safe space for the birds to rest.

Along with this, the city intends to offer compensation to local residents for their participation in ecological conservation activities, aiming to encourage active involvement and raise awareness of ecological preservation among the community.

Furthermore, to prevent avian influenza, the city will thoroughly implement quarantine measures such as operating disinfection vehicles and conducting sterilization according to standard behavioral guidelines during bird feeding activities.

Jo Yoon-ok, Director of the Environmental Guidance Division, stated, “The Winter Migratory Bird Conservation Project is an initiative to provide stable food and resting spaces for migratory birds that visit our region every winter, aiming to preserve biodiversity. We will strive harder to create an environment where migratory birds and humans can coexist.”
