Naju-si Wins 'Excellence Award' for Public Response to Child Abuse

Ministry of Health and Welfare Evaluation... Praise for 'Customized Welfare Services'

Naju-si, Jeollanam-do received the 'Excellence Award' in the operation of the public response system for child abuse at the 2024 Regional Welfare Project Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.


According to the city on the 26th, this evaluation was conducted to strengthen the public nature of child abuse response and raise awareness among local governments, targeting 16 cities and provinces nationwide and 229 city, county, and district local governments.

The evaluation focused on 11 items across four areas, including the placement and support of dedicated child abuse officials, solidification of the response system, and exemplary cases. The Ministry of Health and Welfare selected and awarded two cities/provinces and six city/county/district local governments with outstanding performance.


Under the slogan ‘NajupumAeseo Dodamdodam,’ the city received high praise for establishing a one-stop system through cooperation with related organizations to promptly respond to child abuse cases and provide customized welfare services.


Major projects promoted this year for the prevention and support of child abuse include year-round community-based campaigns to eradicate child abuse, operation of the local safety network ‘Uri Maeul Aijikimidan’ (20 locations, 262 members), joint inspections of high-risk child abuse households and strengthened case meetings with related organizations, psychological testing, medical expenses and visitation interviews for victimized children, and child abuse prevention drawing contests and campaigns.


Mayor Yoon Byung-tae stated, “We will continue to strengthen the public response system to ensure that precious children do not suffer from abuse,” and added, “We will do our best in proactive, field-centered prevention activities through organic cooperation with related organizations.”
