Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 26th that the ‘Lee Ho-cheol Book Concert Hall,’ where residents can enjoy various cultural and artistic performances and exhibitions, will officially open on the 30th along with the operation of the ‘Munye Bookheung’ educational program.
The ‘Lee Ho-cheol Book Concert Hall’ was established to honor the literary activities and the spirit of hope for reunification of writer Lee Ho-cheol, who has been active in Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong-gu for over 50 years. A pre-opening ceremony for the 8th Lee Ho-cheol Unification Road Literary Award was held on the 7th, attended by literary figures, publishing officials, and local residents.
Starting at 1 PM on the 30th, the hall will officially open and operate the ‘Munye Bookheung’ educational program for 52 weeks. This program is inspired by the Renaissance cultural revival and aims to foster a literary renaissance in Eunpyeong through books.
‘Munye Bookheung’ is a cultural and artistic lecture series inviting renowned figures from various fields such as literature, music, photography, and architecture to engage audiences through books. On the first day of the program, novelist Hyun Ki-young will give a lecture recalling his childhood in Jeju with his book One Spoon on Earth Jeju, followed by a congratulatory performance by folk musician Kang Ah-sol, who sings about Jeju.
Any resident wishing to participate can apply online through the Eunpyeong History Hanok Museum website or Instagram.
On the 7th of next month, poet Hwang Ji-woo will give a lecture titled “Poetry Exists in Everyone” based on his poetry collection One Day I Will Be Sitting Alone in a Cloudy Tavern. On the 14th, popular music critic Kang Heon will be invited, and on the 21st, photographer Yoon Kwang-joon will participate.
Pyomun Song, director of the Eunpyeong History Hanok Museum, said, “We plan to design the Lee Ho-cheol Book Concert Hall as a space where classical arts and young artists can interact through various cultural and artistic programs and exhibitions. We aim to restore Eunpyeong, once a street of writers, as a cultural hub in the northwest region of Seoul and make it a leading space for the Eunpyeong Renaissance.”
District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung stated, “I hope the Lee Ho-cheol Book Concert Hall becomes a beloved space for local residents and culture and art enthusiasts, as well as a cultural hub in Seoul. We will continue to strive to make this place a space where Eunpyeong can talk about peace, reunification, culture, and arts through various cultural and artistic events.”
