Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced on the 26th that the Bueong-i Small Library has opened on the 2nd floor of the Cheonho 3-dong Public Complex Building.
The Bueong-i Small Library, which had been closed for three years, has been renovated as part of the Cheonho 3-dong Public Complex Development Project and officially began operations on the 25th. Inside the public complex building, various public facilities such as the Cheonho 3-dong Community Service Center, district-run daycare center, and Gangdong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center are located together, allowing residents of all ages to use them conveniently.
The district expects the small library to provide a much-needed reading culture space for the local community and to bring about positive changes.
The newly established small library is equipped with various features that allow residents to enjoy leisure time and stay comfortably, beyond just borrowing or returning books. At the entrance, bookshelves are arranged with new releases and popular books to spark interest, and the wall shelves extending to the ceiling and cozy interior create an environment conducive to focused reading.
Currently, the small library houses about 1,700 books, including fairy tales, youth books, and popular books for adults. Until December this year, visitors can freely read books inside the library, and starting from January next year, borrowing and returning services as well as an interlibrary loan service to receive books from Gangdong District libraries will be provided.
Mayor Lee Su-hee said, “I hope the Bueong-i Small Library will become a reading space where all local residents can easily access books,” adding, “Especially for children, it will be a place to nurture dreams, and for seniors, a precious place to share wisdom.”
The Bueong-i Small Library’s operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and it is closed on weekends and public holidays.
