Moon Jae-in, Lee Jae-myung Acquitted of 'Perjury Coaching' Charges: "Relieved and Reassured"

Former President Moon Jae-in expressed relief and reassurance over the acquittal of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was indicted on charges of suborning perjury and found not guilty in the first trial.

On the 25th, former President Moon posted on his social media (SNS) Facebook, stating, "The arbitrary and unjust exercise of prosecutorial power shook the entire country."

He then emphasized, "Now, please, it is time for the people's livelihood."

This message is interpreted as pointing out the unfairness of various investigations by the prosecution into the previous administration, triggered by Lee's first trial verdict.

The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Presiding Judge Kim Dong-hyun) acquitted Lee, who was indicted without detention on charges of suborning perjury, on the same day.

Lee was indicted in October last year on charges of requesting false testimony from Kim Jin-sung, a former secretary to former Seongnam Mayor Kim Byung-ryang, during his trial for violating the Public Official Election Act in February 2019.

Meanwhile, the prosecution is investigating whether there was any quid pro quo in the hiring process of Moon's former son-in-law, Seo Mo, at Thai Starjet.
