Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 25th that the 1st Namyangju Citizen Gardener Certification Ceremony was held on the 21st at the Namyangju Garden Support Center.

At the ceremony, the city reported on the progress of the citizen gardener training program and celebrated the birth of the 1st Namyangju Citizen Gardeners by awarding certificates of completion to 22 citizen gardeners.
The Namyangju Citizen Gardeners are citizens who completed 152 hours of education from May last year to November this year, acquiring expertise through systematic learning ranging from basic to advanced courses on gardening.
In particular, the 1st citizen gardeners played a central role in the citizen-led 2024 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo held this year in Dasan-dong, Namyangju, by serving as a citizen promotion team and taking on various roles such as garden creation and interpretation.
Kim Hak-cheol, Director of the Park and Greenery Management Office, said, “Congratulations on the meaningful day marking the birth of Namyangju’s citizen gardeners,” and added, “As senior citizen gardeners, I ask you to guide the future generations of citizen gardeners well.”
The city plans to open the 3rd basic course for citizen gardeners next year to provide broad learning opportunities about plants and gardens and to operate educational programs aimed at spreading garden culture in daily life.
