Certificate and Plaque Awarded... One Person Selected for Each of Four Occupations: Mechanical Maintenance, Optics, Beauty, and Hairdressing
Monthly Technical Incentive of 100,000 KRW for 3 Years, Free Use of Public Parking Lots
On the 25th, Pohang City awarded certificates and plaques to four individuals selected as the ‘2024 Pohang City Master Artisans’ at the City Hall External Cooperation Office.

This year’s Pohang City Master Artisans are four individuals from four different fields: Kim Gyusik (POSCO) in mechanical maintenance, Lee Cheongsu (POSCO) in optics, Kim Sujin (Bunite Kim Sujin Beauty Salon) in beauty, and Jeon Woongyong (Seongdong) in barbering.
The selected master artisans received certificates and plaques, along with benefits including a monthly technology incentive payment of 100,000 KRW for three years and free use of city public parking lots.
A total of 10 candidates applied following the announcement in August, and after passing document screening, the final four were selected by the Master Artisan Review Committee composed of external experts in the relevant fields.
Notably, the selection criteria for master artisans included not only the individual’s technical proficiency but also their contribution to society through mentoring juniors and social service using their skills.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank them for their outstanding skills and strong work ethics in their respective fields, as well as their continuous efforts in community service and mentoring juniors, contributing to the development of the local community. We will continue to do our best to boost the morale of skilled technicians and create an environment where technicians are respected.”
Since enacting the ‘Ordinance on the Fostering and Support of Skilled Technicians in Pohang City’ in 2019, Pohang City has annually selected and awarded the ‘Pohang City Master Artisans.’ Including this year’s four, a total of 32 master artisans have been selected to date.
