HiSonic Supplies First Samples of Prismatic Secondary Battery Components... "Close to Signing Main Contract"

HiSonic announced on the 25th that it has completed the development of prismatic secondary battery components for a global battery manufacturer and has supplied the first samples.

For the prismatic samples, performance and quality testing is expected to take about one month, and if there are no special quality issues, the company plans to immediately sign the main contract after negotiating the remaining contract terms.

In particular, the samples sent this time include not only prismatic secondary battery component samples but also cylindrical component samples. The cylindrical component samples were supplied at the customer's request, as the company explained that the customer judged that cooperation with Chinese companies in the U.S. poses significant risks following Trump's election as U.S. president.

Accordingly, HiSonic will be able to conduct quality verification in advance before the cylindrical Request for Quotation (RFQ) process expected in January next year. Once the RFQ begins, the company can focus solely on negotiating cooperation terms, which is expected to increase the possibility of collaboration in the cylindrical business as well. This is anticipated to give momentum not only to the prismatic business but also to the cylindrical secondary battery component business.

Additionally, HiSonic plans to complete the establishment of a local factory in the U.S. by the first half of next year in line with the customer's mass production schedule, preparing to mass-produce and supply prismatic secondary battery components.

A company official stated, “Although there are uncertainties with the recent re-election of the Trump administration, as Chinese companies that have mainly driven prismatic growth find it increasingly difficult to enter the U.S. market, companies like HiSonic that have completed localization in the U.S. are expected to benefit indirectly,” adding, “The complete repeal of the IRA, especially the AMPC (Advanced Manufacturing Production Credit), is realistically difficult, and environmental regulations such as ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) will inevitably remain robust despite challenges from the Trump administration.”

He continued, “The successive launches of mid-to-low priced electric vehicles and the easing of autonomous driving regulations will present another opportunity for the secondary battery industry,” and added, “HiSonic has steadily prepared its technology and U.S. localization, and will actively leverage these opportunities arising from the existing market restructuring, strengthening its market responsiveness through proactive investments in North American production bases.”
