Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 25th that at the ‘27th National Rice Festival’ held from the 19th to the 21st at the Singsing Market in Sejong City, the ‘Misojinpoom’ rice from the farm of Kim Tae-wan in Yecheon won the grand prize, the Presidential Award, proving the excellence of Gyeongbuk rice.
In addition, ‘Misojinpoom’ rice from the farm of Song Bong-dal in Chilgok won the Silver Award, the Rural Development Administration Award, and ‘Samgwang’ rice from the farm of Lee Kang-sik in Yeongju received the Bronze Award, the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation President’s Award.

Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Rice Farmers Central Association, this event is held annually to promote Korean rice and enhance trust in Korean agriculture, and is the most prestigious event in the field of rice quality evaluation.
This selection competition featured a total of 63 entries competing for superiority, with 7 entries from each of the 9 provinces nationwide after the first round of judging. The evaluation was conducted under very strict criteria, including residual pesticide tests, the ratio of perfect grains, moisture content, protein content, as well as external and performance evaluations, and separate taste tests.
Kim Ju-ryeong, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Distribution Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “This achievement is the fruit of the hard work of farmers who have been striving to make Gyeongbuk rice a premium brand, and we will continue to accelerate the promotion and branding of our excellent Gyeongbuk rice.”
