Nation's First Drone Port Delivery Service on the 26th, Delivery Demonstration Held at Korea Maritime and Ocean University Drone Delivery Hub
Orders for Ship Supplies, Fishing Gear, Food, etc. via Naraon App... Expanding Busan-Style Port Drone Delivery Standardization Model
Busan City will officially launch the port drone delivery service applying the nation's first 'K-Drone Delivery Standard' starting with a demonstration event on the 26th.
The K-Drone Delivery Standard is a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport guideline that establishes the necessary system for the commercialization of K-Drone delivery, including the installation of facilities and equipment to ensure safe operation.
At 2 p.m. on the 26th, a drone delivery demonstration will be held at the Korea Maritime and Ocean University delivery hub center. A performance will take place where drones deliver convenience store items such as beverages ordered via an app from Jodo Breakwater in Yeongdo-gu to the delivery hub center within Korea Maritime and Ocean University, and then to the customer.
Selected as the sole participant in the port drone delivery category of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project' in March, the city has been building the port drone delivery system in collaboration with Marine Drone Technology, P&U Drone, Busan Technopark, and Busan International Ship Supplies Distribution Business Cooperative.
From March to November this year, a total project cost of 595 million KRW (500 million KRW national funds, 95 million KRW city funds) was invested to establish two delivery hubs (Korea Maritime and Ocean University and mid-slope of Junglisan Mountain).
With this, the city will operate the 'Port Drone Delivery Service' nationwide for the first time, delivering goods from two delivery hubs to 17 locations including Busan Port anchorage and marine leisure areas.
The delivery areas include 11 Busan Port anchorages, 4 fishing spots at fishing grounds, and 2 locations at Jodo Breakwater.
By ordering goods through the NARAON app from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, customers can receive the port drone delivery service. Delivery fees are 3,000 KRW for marine leisure areas and start at 100,000 KRW for anchorages, with surcharges and discounts applied accordingly.
Through the NARAON app, customers can order ship supplies, electronic products, fishing gear, food, convenience store items, and more.
The city plans to establish a Busan-type port drone delivery commercialization standard model through this project and expand it further.
They will increase the serviceable areas by adding delivery hubs and delivery zones within the region and support expansion to major domestic ports such as Yeosu and Gwangyang. Additionally, they plan to diversify items by developing drones capable of transporting heavy goods.
They also plan to promote the export of delivery service models centered on global shipping and ports with high vessel traffic and cargo volumes such as Singapore, Rotterdam, Panama, and Suez.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Through this port drone delivery service, the first of its kind nationwide, we hope to contribute to resolving logistics blind spots and inconveniences in marine leisure areas.” He added, “We will continue to support the standardization of marine-centered drone delivery service models, expansion to major domestic and international ports, and the discovery and demonstration of various business models using drones so that local drone companies can develop globally.”
