This overdue notice will be sent to 6,275 defaulters of last year's environmental improvement charges for diesel vehicles released before July 2012 and facilities charged until September 2015.

The total number of overdue cases is 36,995, with an overdue amount of 2.2 billion KRW, which must be paid by December 31.

The environmental improvement charge is a system designed to induce pollution reduction by making polluters bear the cost of pollutant treatment and to stably secure funds for environmental investment.

For diesel vehicles, the charge is imposed twice a year on the owner, in March and September. Although the facility charge was abolished from 2016, payments must still be made for charges already imposed up to 2015.

Payment of the environmental improvement charge can be made by visiting a nearby financial institution or through internet banking, ARS, dedicated virtual accounts, Internet Giro, or Wetax. For other inquiries, detailed guidance can be obtained by contacting the Climate Energy Division of Goyang City Hall.

An official from Goyang Special City stated, “To improve the collection rate of the 2024 environmental improvement charge and foster a culture of sincere tax payment, we have decided to send out overdue notices simultaneously,” and urged, “Please make sure to pay within the deadline to avoid disadvantages due to overdue payments.”
