The ‘Han River Estuary Joint Research and Gyeonggi·Ecology·History Tourism Belt Development Project’ has invested a total of 14.06 billion KRW over the past six years.

The Han River Estuary in Goyang City is a tourism resource that encompasses ecological assets such as Janghang Wetland, designated as a Ramsar wetland, and Daedeok Ecological Park, as well as historical resources like Haengju Fortress. Through this project, the city aimed to develop the Han River Estuary into a tourist attraction that preserves its ecological value while highlighting its historical significance, providing new cultural tourism experiences for local residents and visitors.

For over 50 years, the Han River Estuary was designated as a military protection zone and used as a military patrol route. However, after the withdrawal of military forces, the city remodeled three abandoned barracks (Janghang, Sinpyeong, Haengju) and improved the surroundings of the patrol routes to create resting spaces that both citizens and tourists can enjoy.

Additionally, this construction installed barrier-free walkways for transportation-vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled, improving the previously inconvenient walking environment and enabling tourists to enjoy a special experience of walking while appreciating the natural scenery along the Han River.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City stated, “With the completion of the Haengju Fortress waterfront deck path, the tourism belt along the Han River Estuary, connecting Daedeok Ecological Park, Haengju Fortress Historical Park, Goyang Han River Park, Janghang Wetland, and Ilsan Bridge, will open a new chapter of ecology, history, and tourism centered on the Han River Estuary.” He added, “We hope many tourists visit the Han River Estuary, transformed into a resting space, and fully enjoy the natural scenery along the river.”
