Special Crackdown on Illegal Advertisements by Over 80 People Including Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, on the Night of the 21st
Response Measures Including Fines and Automated Call Bombing Through Collected Illegal Advertisements

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) conducted a special nighttime crackdown on illegal advertisements in the Dohwa-dong area from 9 PM to midnight on the 21st.

Dohwa-dong is a highly trafficked area with apartment complexes, Gongdeok Station served by four subway lines, and the Dohwa-dong shopping district lined with popular restaurants, making it a place with high advertising effectiveness. However, these characteristics also make it a hotspot for illegal advertisements.

Accordingly, Mapo-gu plans to continuously crack down on illegal advertisements such as promotional flyers and business cards for adult entertainment establishments with provocative content to create a pleasant living environment and protect children and adolescents.

The crackdown involved about 80 participants, including Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, National Assembly member Jo Jeong-hoon, Mapo-gu council members, staff from the Mapo-gu Pedestrian Administration Division and Dohwa-dong Community Service Center, Mapo Police Station, and leaders and members of Dohwa-dong civic organizations.

The participants were divided into two teams by area and inspected from the Dohwa-dong Community Service Center to the Dohwa-dong shopping district, Boksakkot Children's Park, Police Mutual Aid Association, and around Gongdeok Station, collecting over 200 illegal advertisements scattered on the streets.

In addition, about 30 various signboards such as air lights and illegal banners that obstruct pedestrian movement were inspected, guided, and removed.

Mapo-gu plans to identify advertisers through the phone numbers listed on the collected illegal advertisements and impose the maximum range of fines.

Furthermore, they plan to neutralize advertising effects by using the ‘Automatic Warning Call System (awcs)’, also known as the ‘phone bomb’, which automatically makes calls and broadcasts warning messages that the recipient is subject to fines and criminal penalties.

Mapo-gu will actively crack down not only in Dohwa-dong but also in areas crowded with residents and tourists such as Hongdae Red Road on illegal advertisements, illegal solicitation, illegal prostitution businesses, and illegal parking to create a safe Mapo free from harmful environments.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We launched a special crackdown to eradicate illegal advertisements that are harmful to youth and even make adults frown,” adding, “We will do our best to completely eliminate illegal advertisements through continuous on-site inspections and monitoring.”
