Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on November 26 that it has completed the creation of the ‘Mullae-dong Green Pole Alley Garden’ and will hold a ‘Gardening & Mini Concert’ with residents in the alleys of Mullae Creative Village.

The ‘Mullae-dong Green Pole Alley Garden’ is a project that created small gardens by installing Green Pole facilities using climbing plants along main streets and alleys. It was planned to expand green spaces that residents can experience and improve the walking environment.

In particular, this project is significant because local residents, shop and factory residents in the alleys, and village gardeners collaborated to transform the idle spaces in Mullae-dong into green healing rest areas. Some of the Green Poles and planters used in the garden creation were directly produced at Mullae-dong ironworks, and residents and village gardeners planted flowers and plants together to complete the garden on the finished facilities.

The district secured 150 million KRW in city funds for this project, reducing the financial burden while enhancing the value of the project by strengthening community spirit through resident participation.

Mullae-dong is an area where the industrial vitality of ironworks and artistic sensibility coexist. This alley garden further highlights Mullae-dong’s unique charm through the harmony of industry, art, and nature.

Before creating the garden, the district conducted an on-site inspection to closely analyze the characteristics of the target area and carefully selected idle spaces that do not interfere with pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Considering local conditions and harmony with surrounding buildings, various designed facilities such as ▲Green Poles ▲Planters ▲Green Wires ▲Green Pavilions were installed, and charming lighting was added to maximize visual enjoyment.

In the future, the district plans to collaborate with artists from Mullae Creative Village to paint murals on alley walls depicting the four seasons of Yeongdeungpo, adding artistic sensibility to the alleys. They also plan to plant diverse specialized species to showcase beautiful garden scenery that changes with each season.

At 5 p.m. on the 26th, a gardening and mini concert will be held at Mullae Creative Village to commemorate the creation of the ‘Mullae-dong Green Pole Alley Garden.’ During the event, residents of the creative village alleys and village gardeners will plant flowers throughout the alleys. A live acoustic guitar concert evoking the autumn atmosphere will add warmth and emotion to the entire alley area.

In May, the district declared Yeongdeungpo a garden city and plans to continuously create lifestyle-friendly gardens so that residents can enjoy gardens close to their daily lives, following the Mullae-dong Flower Garden and Yeouido Wave Garden.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “As the saying goes, ‘A garden is a poem written on the land with flowers and trees,’ I hope that the Mullae-dong Green Pole Alley Garden becomes a beautiful poem that conveys leisure and healing to residents’ lives. We will continue to create gardens harmonizing flowers and trees throughout the region and expand spaces where residents can enjoy happiness with nature in the city.”
