Busan City Promotes Winter Fire Prevention Inspections... Enhancing Citizen Safety

Establish 'Winter Fire Prevention Response Plan' by Late November... Joint Inspections by City, District, County, and Fire Departments from December to February

Aiming to Eliminate Fire Hazards in Advance... Fire Safety Inspections for High-Density and Fire-Vulnerable Facilities

Busan City has established a winter fire prevention response plan and will conduct fire prevention inspections for three months from December this year to February next year.

This response plan is prepared to prevent casualties and other damages caused by fire accidents during the winter season, when the use of heating appliances and other fire sources increases and dry weather persists, raising fire risk factors.

The city (departments in charge of each facility), district and county offices, and the Fire and Disaster Headquarters will each establish their own fire prevention response plans by the end of November and will carry out fire safety management inspections for each facility either independently or jointly between institutions starting in December.

The inspections will focus on "multi-occupancy facilities" where many people gather and "fire-vulnerable facilities." The goal is to eliminate fire risk factors in advance by checking the fire safety management status in areas such as firefighting, electricity, and gas, as well as for each facility.

In the event of a fire, a "preventive fire safety management inspection" will be conducted on fire-vulnerable facilities with a high risk of large fires, such as aging apartment complexes, to prevent casualties and property damage.

Additionally, private multi-use facilities such as tourist accommodations will be inspected mainly on the preparation and training status of crisis situation manuals for emergencies.

Cha Eul-jun, Director of the City’s Citizen Safety Office, stated, “To alleviate citizens’ anxiety caused by recent fires occurring in various places, our city, together with the fire department and district and county offices, will thoroughly conduct preventive inspections of fire-vulnerable facilities and carefully review evacuation plans for each facility to minimize casualties from fires.”
